THE groundwork for a new 100-bed hotel at Whitekirk Golf and Country Club has begun – two years after it was given planning approval.
Enabling work on the golf course has been undertaken and it is expected building the hotel will start in the next four months.
The hotel, costing more than £14 million, was given planning permission by East Lothian Council in June 2013.
Developers estimated about 120 people would be employed as part of the construction of the hotel, while 50 to 60 jobs could be created once it is operational.
Russell McIntyre, interim manager and Head PGA Professional at the club, said the hotel itself was expected to take about 18 months to construct.
