THE world’s most famous aerobatic team will once again take to the sky above East Fortune for Scotland’s National Airshow.

The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, The Red Arrows, will headline the show on July 25 at the National Museum of Flight.

For the first time in the airshow’s history, all five RAF display teams will be represented.

They will perform alongside a stellar line-up of spectacular air displays of aircraft from all eras.

Tickets for the event went on sale last week and Steve McLean (pictured below left), general manager at the National Museum of Flight, said: “We’re glad to host five different displays by the RAF and to welcome back the Red Arrows to East Fortune this summer.

“Exhilarating entertainment in the sky, coupled with an exciting programme of activities for spectators on the ground, makes this one of the best family days out in Scotland.” Synonymous with precision flying, dramatic formations and loops and rolls, the Red Arrows return for their 51st flying season at this summer’s airshow. Visitors will also be wowed by the RAF’s supersonic Typhoon, a powerful combat aircraft that can fly at twice the speed of sound.

The RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will comprise iconic heritage aircraft the Spitfire, the Lancaster and the Hurricane, which will take to the skies above the historic military airfield at East Fortune.

Perhaps the most famous aircraft of all time, the Spitfire is considered to be the most successful fighter plane ever made, while airworthy Hurricanes are very rare, with only six surviving in the UK.

The RAF Hawk Display Team will make their first appearance at East Fortune, demonstrating their flying prowess and professional excellence in an aerial display featuring two Hawks.

To complete the RAF line-up, the RAF Tutor Display Team will perform a solo Tutor flight, executing gravity-defying barrel rolls, loops and vertical stalls for the crowds.

Located at East Fortune, a military airfield dating back to the First World War, the National Museum of Flight will be open for visitors to explore. Highlights include Scotland’s supersonic Concorde, Fortunes of War, which tells the stories of those that served at East Fortune, and Fantastic Flight, full of interactive exhibits and family fun. On the ground, there will be a range of family entertainment and activities, and food and drink.
