EAST Lothian MSP Iain Gray has written to Scotland’s Transport Minister demanding that he deliver a local rail service to Dunbar and East Linton as promised in the new ScotRail franchise.
Abellio take over from First in running Scotland’s railways through ScotRail from Wednesday.
However, plans to improve the service – including the re-opening of the station at East Linton – could be delayed until the December 2018 timetable, due to a lack of stock, it was revealed at a meeting between members of campaign group RAGES and Abellio.
Mr Gray highlighted that the previous Transport Minister had promised the service would be running by the end of next year.
A Transport Scotland spokeswoman said: “The Scottish Government has demonstrated its commitment to the station at East Linton by making provision in the new ScotRail franchise by extending the services between Edinburgh and Dunbar, to deliver a two-hourly service.
“The price will be held until December 1, 2018 but it can be introduced before that date, subject to the stations being delivered by the promoters.”
