MEMBERS of the public can have their say next week on plans for more than 1,600 new homes.

Proposals have already been lodged with East Lothian Council for the Blindwells site, between Longniddry and Tranent.

Hargreaves Services aims to build more than 1,600 homes, with potentially hundreds of new jobs being created.

Now, five information days are being held next week to allow members of the public to have their say on the scheme.

Iain Slater, head of property for Hargreaves Services, said: “We hope to see as many people as possible at these events, taking the opportunity to learn more about our plans.” The site will provide affordable housing, a supermarket, healthcare centre, business premises, recreation space and other community facilities.

The development was initially identified as an important site over a decade ago and was incorporated into the East Lothian Development Plan.

These plans are likely to take about 12 months to progress through the planning process and, if successful, it is hoped work could begin towards the end of 2015.

The first public information event is held at Port Seton Centre on Monday from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. Later that day, another event is held at Prestonpans Community Centre from 4.30pm to 7.30pm.

On Tuesday, Longniddry Church Hall is the venue from 12.30pm to 3.30pm and Tranent’s Loch Centre hosts the event from 4.30pm to 7.30pm. Finally, Haddington Town House, on Wednesday is the venue, noon-3pm.
