A YOUNG boy with autism will take part in his first trick or treat adventure tonight (Friday) after dozens of people invited him to knock on their doors.

Lewis Baillie’s mum Andrea launched an appeal for “kind-hearted” people to contact her if they were happy for her son to go to their homes on Hallowe’en.

And she was left overwhelmed as offers to help came flooding in.

Lewis, nine, has been desperate to take part in the fun night after watching his brothers go out each year.

Andrea said this year is the first time he has had the confidence to take part himself, but she had been concerned about letting him go to strangers’ doors.

But after posting an appeal on social media site Facebook asking for willing houses for Lewis to visit, she had to spend this week plotting out a route for Lewis, and his younger brother Rhys, to follow to take in as many homes as they can.

Andrea said: “Because Lewis has autism and sensory issues, I was worried about him going to the doors of people who did not know him.

“He can be quite non-responsive and I didn’t want him to have a bad experience or go to someone who did not understand.

“When I made the appeal I would have been thrilled to have three or four doors but the response has been amazing.

“We’ve had offers from the other end of East Lothian and Edinburgh, and lots of people near us have been just amazing.” The family, of New Street, Musselburgh, appealed for homes to visit on the Facebook site ‘For Sale or Wanted East Lothian’.

Angela wrote: “My son Lewis (9) has autism and loves Hallowe’en, he has never been trick or treating but wants to go this year, which is a big thing for him.

“What I am asking is if there is any kind people out there who would not mind him and his little brother (6) coming to your door... he is only able to say trick or treat but it would mean the world to him and me. I am willing to drop something off for you to give him if need.” Now Lewis is excitedly preparing for his big night out and his werewolf costume is ready to go on.

He is even going to be joined by Midlothian Mascots, who will send a mascot to help take Lewis and Rhys door to door.
