A SERIES of ‘care fairs’ are taking place to provide information to those considering becoming carers.

East Lothian Council and partner providers including Allan-Ross, Allied Healthcare, Care UK, Call-In, ILS, Community Integrated Care and SCRT are joining Musselburgh’s Queen Margaret University, Skills Development Scotland, the Health and Social Care Academy and Training for Care in running a series of recruitment fairs and online campaigns to encourage more people to become paid carers.

East Lothian Care Fairs 2014 are happening at Queen Margaret University on Wednesday (October 29), 3-6pm, and at the Bleachingfield Centre, Dunbar, next Monday (November 3), noon to 6pm.

They offer an opportunity to meet agencies and advisers and find out more about the profession.

Councillor Donald Grant, council health and social care spokesperson: “Careers in care are really rewarding and bring great job satisfaction. As well as getting on-the-job training and qualifications, you also know that you are making a real difference in someone’s life. Carers make a lot of friends!

“I’m hoping lots of new carers will come forward. We need you now more than ever, as many more people choose to remain at home in the surroundings that they are familiar and comfortable with.

“We hope you’ll make the decision to work in care in East Lothian. It’s a rewarding life and you’ll make a real difference to the lives of service-users, families and communities.” To find out more about working in care, go to eastlothian.gov.uk/carefair or email communitycare@eastlothian.gov.uk
