A TALENTED artist has worked alongside a TV star to give a school boy a day he will never, ever forget.

Robin Wood joined forces with Dragons’ Den star and interior designer Kelly Hoppen on Stars at Your Service.

The Channel Four show, which was broadcast on Saturday night, allowed members of the public to nominate stars such as Rebecca Adlington, Katie Price and Jamelia to perform a service for a family touched by cancer.

Robin, who is based near East Linton, was delighted to help out and ended up creating a pirate-themed treehouse, called Lichtie Lass II, for the Yule family, who live in Arbroath.

He said: “I spent two and a half weeks and the majority of the treehouse was built by myself. I pulled in some help at the end and had some help with the installation.” The whole idea came about remarkably quickly, with Robin receiving a call on August 29.

Robin was approached about the possibility of creating a treehouse for the family.

Mum Jayne told the programme that her son Benji had asked about a treehouse three years ago at about the same time she was diagnosed with skin cancer.

When she found out about the show, she got in touch and that was where Robin came into action.

He said: “I had to shoot up to Arbroath for a site visit and meet the family.

“I had a look at the location and they got me on the train on the Sunday because Kelly Hoppen was going to Asia.

“I shot down to London and got picked up and taken to the hotel.

“The next morning I got picked up by a chauffeur-driven black Mercedes. I was standing looking for a taxi and I thought ‘that car is not for me’.” The 45-year-old then worked alongside Kelly Hoppen to come up with a design.

Robin faced a hectic few weeks of sourcing the wood and then putting the more-than-10-foot-tall treehouse together.

He added: “We had to get it finished by noon and Benji came back and down the road; it was big a surprise for him.

“We finished up in the nick of time and it was done at absolutely breakneck speed.” Despite the stress of the whole operation, Robin revealed it was worthwhile, with the entire family “over the moon” by the end result.

The invitation to appear on the programme came at a fortunate time for Robin, who previously created the popular Glingbobs and Tootflits sculpture trail at Pressmennan Wood, near Stenton.

He had just set up his own business, Wild Child Designs, which was established to create bespoke play equipment for children of all ages.
