The inaugural Scottish Half Marathon takes place exclusively in East Lothian next Saturday (September 6), with road closures and traffic restrictions in place to accommodate the near-4,000 runners who have entered.

One of Britain’s most successful judo stars and recent silver medallist at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, Gemma Gibbons, 27, will officially start the race at 11am from Meadowmill Sports Centre.

Olympic silver medallist Gemma, 27 – wife of Pencaitland-raised judo star Euan Burton, himself a gold medallist at the Glasgow Games – will officially mark the start of the UK’s newest running event.

After departing Meadowmill, the runners head towards Longiddry and Gosford House before turning around and heading west, along the coast road, to the finishing post at Musselburgh Racecourse.

Neil Kilgour, Scottish Half Marathon race director, said that the stunning scenery of the county’s coastline – ‘Scotland’s Golf Coast’ – would take runners’ breaths away.

This race will deliver perfect running conditions that will reward runners for all their efforts in training and on race day.” Traffic restrictions will be in place around Meadowmill at the start of the race, with access to the centre and connected roads, including the B1361 from Meadowmill service road to the roundabout, closed entirely from 10.50am until 11.10am.
