TWO cats have been found abandoned in a bush at a county play park.

The Scottish SPCA was alerted after a member of the public discovered the animals in a pet carrier near Albert Street in Wallyford on Sunday evening.

The grey and white female tabby cats are in thin condition and one is pregnant.

They are now in the care of the Scottish SPCA's Lanarkshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Hamilton.

Inspector Emma Phillips said: "Both cats were left inside a pet carrier which had a makeshift door made out of cardboard.

"One of the cats is pregnant and being abandoned would have put her under a great deal of stress.

"They have lovely natures and it's very sad they were dumped.

"We are keen to establish why both cats are underweight and would ask anyone who recognises them to contact us and help us trace their owner.

"These girls will remain in our care until they are ready to go to new homes. We'll also look after the kittens and find them loving owners when the time is right."
