SEVENTEEN Tranent organisations are to benefit from a share of £20,000, released following the dissolution of Tranent Community Development Company (TCDC).
The company was established in 2000 to benefit Tranent residents and work with other organisations to provide facilities in the area.
It was wound up last year and £60,000 in funding transferred back to East Lothian Council, on the understanding that priority use would be given to the repair and refurbishment of the town's Foresters Park sports pitch.
The works were completed leaving a balance of £30,000. It was agreed last November that this money should be used to support community activity in the town.
A committee involving all Fa'side councillors met to propose and agree the projects that would benefit from additional funding. East Lothian Council announced the approved grants this week.
Ross High RFC and Tranent Juniors Football Club were granted £8,000 and £3,000 respectively while Elphinstone Miners Welfare Social and Charitable Club received £2,000.
A further 14 organisations were each awarded £500 to support their activities. They were: Bronx Boxing Gym; Chris Ewing Karate; Fa'side Lodge Care Home Social Fund; Recharge; Ross High School - the HUB; Ross High School ASN; Sanderson's Wynd Primary School Eco-committee; St Martin's RC Primary School; Tranent Bowling Club; Tranent Colts Football Club; Tranent Cricket Club; Tranent Day Centre; Tranent Ladies' Hockey Club; and, Windygoul Primary School Parent Council.
The fund's remaining £10,000 is being retained by East Lothian Council for future, deserving Tranent projects.
