THE draw for the chance to blow up Cockenzie’s iconic chimneys will take place in Prestonpans Labour Club at the end of this month.

Thousands of raffle tickets have already been sold as people try to win the once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Promoter Iain Stewart, of Longniddry and District Rotary Club, presented the very first ticket, numbered 0001 to Maggie Blair, 96, the oldest resident in Prestonpans they could find.

Maggie is a sprightly 96 and a good friend of Nancy Paterson, who recently received ticket No. 2 as the oldest resident of Cockenzie & Port Seton.

Maggie was born and grew up on Redburn Road and her husband was a drummer in the pipe band.

The Rotary club is overseeing the distribution of the raffle tickets and money raised will be split between Rotary, Prestonpans and Cockenzie and Port Seton community councils and ScottishPower’s partner charity Cancer Research UK.

Tickets can be bought in many local shops, clubs and pubs around the county or by contacting Iain at if.stewart@btinternet.com. The draw will be made at 2pm next Saturday by the Cockenzie and Port Seton and Prestonpans Gala Queens. The chimneys are due to be blown up on Saturday, September 26.
