GOLFING fan Gary Fraser is planning the ultimate round for charity – taking in 17 golf courses across East Lothian in just one day.

Gary, from Port Seton, will cycle more than 68 miles to play one hole at 16 courses and two at Longniddry during the dawn-to-dusk challenge.

He plans to tee off at 6.45am in Musselburgh and finish at Kilspindie by 7pm on Monday, September 14.

Money raised from the event will be split between five charities – CHAS, Teenage Cancer Trust, Cahonas Scotland, St Columba’s Hospice and Edinburgh Sick Kids.

Everyone who donates will be given a free raffle ticket for a range of prizes, donated to the cause, many from the courses where Gary will play.

One top prize offers someone the chance to join him for one hole during his day.

Gary said that the idea for the event came after he decided to make a kind-hearted gesture for his birthday last year.

He said: “I did not want any presents and requested that people made a donation instead, and the whole golf/cycle idea mushroomed out of that.

“I have 17 golf courses on board and will play two holes at Longniddry to make the 18 for the round.

“It should be the toughest round of golf there is but I’ve had lots of support. I’ve even got my seven-year-old daughter joining me on the last mile of the cycle.” Gary’s round includes holes at: Musselburgh Golf Club, Musselburgh Links, Royal Musselburgh, Longniddry, Haddington, Gifford, Castle Park, Dunbar, Winterfield, Whitekirk, Glen, North Berwick, Renaissance, Gullane No 3, Luffness New, Craigielaw and finally Kilspindie.
