PLANS to build houses on land separating Port Seton from Seton Sands Holiday Park have been revealed.

Developers want to build on the stretch of land at Port Seton Links, despite East Lothian Council’s plans to protect the ground by classing it under Countryside Around Towns policies.

A public consultation on the proposals will be held in Port Seton Community Centre in September.

The proposal, by a Mr AP Dale and RF Dale, come after they objected to East Lothian Council’s plans to class the land in the local authority’s Main Issues Report consultation earlier this year.

They told the council that they believed the land could accommodate up to 90 houses and should be approved for residential development.

And they insisted it would not lead to Port Seton and Seton Sands merging because of a “strong woodland buffer” to the east of the site.

East Lothian Council proposed introducing a Countryside Around Towns policy to protect areas of land it considered at threat from development which needed protection.

However, in a presentation to the local authority, the developers disagreed with their plans.

They said: “We do not agree with the principle of this policy, but even if it is adopted, we do not consider it to be relevant to this site.” And they argued: “We do not consider that the subject land has any particular qualities that make it special.

“It is a visually well-contained site on the eastern edge of Port Seton, and adjacent to Seton Sands Holiday Park.

“We could speculate that there may be concern that development of the site might result in coalescence between Port Seton and Seton Sands.

“However, we do not consider that there is any risk of this because of the strong woodland buffer to the east of the site.” A Proposal of Application Notice for the land has been lodged with East Lothian Council and a public consultation will be held in the community centre on Wednesday, September 16, between 2pm and 7.30pm.
