HUNDREDS of raffle tickets for the Cockenzie Power Station demolition have been sold over the first few days of their release as people battle for the chance to blow up the famous chimneys.

Tickets went on sale at Cockenzie and Port Seton and Longniddry Galas on Saturday, as well as at a number of outlets and Longiddry and District Rotary Club, which is overseeing the raffle, said sales reached about £1,000 over the weekend.

In total 20,000 tickets have been printed which are being sold at £2 each. Money raised will be split between Prestonpans and Cockenzie and Port Seton Community Councils, the Rotary club and ScottishPower’s charity partner Cancer Research UK.

And ticket sales are not being restricted to East Lothian, with phone requests coming from as far as Canada for them.

Confirmed local outlets selling the tickets in the community are: Prestonpans Labour Club; Cockenzie House; Pitstop Cafe at the Pennypit, Prestonpans; Nicholson’s newsagent, Longniddry; The Gothenburg pub, Prestonpans; Party Express, Prestonpans; and Thorntree Inn, Port Seton.
