Members of the Civil War Trust in the United States will be taking part in next week’s fourth bienniel Scottish National Battlefields Symposium.

Representatives of battle sites in Scotland and America will gather in Prestonpans Community Centre.

They are expected to agree and sign an international Accord pledging to set up a Scottish National Battlefields Trust to protect important sites across the country.

The Accord follows concerns about developments on the sites of Culloden and the Battle of Prestonpans, where Inchcape Offshore Windfarm has been granted planning permission in principle to build a substation, despite public protest.

It is likely the decision by Historic Scotland not to oppose the recent development plans will be a hot topic for discussion and representatives from the National Trust for Scotland will be there.

The symposium is open to anyone who wants to go along next Friday (October 24) and the programme of events starts at 10am.
