COCKENZIE House and Gardens is welcoming back a paranormal team next month, after their first visit discovered a wealth of unexplained activity.

Among the incidents recorded by the team from Lanarkshire Paranormal investigators was an encounter with a woman in black outside the gardens, who appeared to be injured.

In a report following their visit, Steff Murdoch-Richards, co-manager of the group, reported going to the aid of the woman after he had stepped out of the house to fetch something from his car.

The report said Steff noticed a woman in black crawling on the B1348, outside the house, and, thinking she was injured, went to her aid.

It said: “As he helped her up she was very cold and pale and, although she was crawling on the floor in heavy rain, her dress seemed dry and no signs of mud.

“She had no weight to her whatsoever and seemed perfectly fine once she was standing up.

“Within a few moments of walking away, he turned round and she was gone.” The strange encounter came on a night when the investigators had spent several hours in the house with guests and encountered a range of paranormal activities.

In the basement, the spirit of a man called Richard was picked up, who had stabbed a woman by the name of Mary after being confronted about an affair.

In the glass house area, during a seance, many people heard a faint scream, while a presence going by the name of Edward appeared to be very physical, jabbing people in the ribs and punching someone’s arm.

On the middle floor, several people reported sensing the presence of a young girl who had severely damaged her legs in a fall, while on the top floor a number of different spirits were sensed.

The paranormal team is returning to Cockenzie House and Gardens on November 29 for another investigation into the activity.

Guests can join the investigation, which is held between 9pm and 3am, by booking tickets from their website lanarkshireparanormal.co.uk
