The Coastal Regeneration Forum is holding a series of meetings for residents and groups to discuss the proposed marine energy park at Cockenzie Power Station.

The forum, which was set up four years ago to protect and enhance amenity on the coastline of the ‘Three Harbours Area’, which encompasses the area of coastline from Prestonpans to Longniddry, is offering people the chance to raise questions, and discuss the proposals.

Following a well-attended meeting in Cockenzie last week, a second meeting is being held in Prestonpans on Monday evening.

Starting at 7.30pm in the Preston Lodge Rugby Club rooms at Prestongrange Bowling Club, all are invited.

A spokesperson for the forum said: “The Coastal Regeneration Forum’s role is simply to provide a forum for local people to air their views and assist to bring focus to the opinions expressed.

“We are not a protest group and we are acutely aware that beyond genuine impact concerns, the potential for local job creation and sustained employment is welcomed by many.

“It is already clear, however, that far from basic conceptual, detailed planning for the development, even while awaiting a developer, is well advanced. “This has given rise to suspicions of needless secrecy designed to exclude locals from any say in the decision-making process.

“Whether this criticism is justifiably or not, this is certainly how it is being perceived locally and this is not helpful.”
