A HOUSE decorated for one of the county’s galas has become such a hit that people from all over the world have come to see it.

The home of Cockenzie and Port Seton Gala Court members Jordan Neil and Lauchlan Beaumont was such a success at this year’s gala that it became the talk of the burgh.

And as word spread, they have been visited by tourists and locals who are all keen to see what all the fuss is about.

Lauchlan’s mum Christine said that they had even raised money for the local primary school, after they put a donation bucket out for just an hour on gala day.

Christine said: “The response has been incredible, with people who have visited returning with family and friends to show them the house.

“We even had people from Sri Lanka come, after they heard everyone in town talking about our home.” The family home on Park Road was transformed into a castle to represent Jordan’s role as a standard bearer, with a fishing boat called ‘Yinooo’ berthed alongside it for Lauchlan who was a fisherman in the gala.

Much of the work was carried out by Christine’s partner Gordon, a joiner to trade and Jordan’s dad, and his work colleague Neil Copland.

Word of the extraordinary transformation quickly spread on gala day and brought crowds of people to see it.

Youngsters also enjoyed playing in the garden, and the donation bucket raised £230 for Cockenzie Primary School.

In the end the family home only came third in the Best Dressed House competition, but there is no doubt it has proved the winner when it comes to the number of visitors.

And it could remain dressed up for some time yet, as the family decides what to do with their work of art.

Christine, 36, said: “Gordon has been waiting for years for the boys to be old enough to be in the gala so he could decorate the house.

“Next weekend, clients of his want to come from Edinburgh to see the house. We are looking for ideas about where it could go now.

“If anyone thinks that they could use it we would be delighted to talk to them, otherwise, who knows, it might still be up at Christmas!”
