DIVERSIONS and temporary traffic lights will be in place in Prestonpans from tomorrow for up to 15 weeks as SGN carries out major upgrading work.

The gas suppliers said work would begin on the B1361, near its junction with Royal Musselburgh Golf Club, before moving east to Gardiner Terrace and onto the junction with Schaw Road.

SGN said it intended to close junctions coming onto the road temporarily as it reached them.

The junctions of Jim Bush Drive, Mid Road, Polwarth Terrace, Preston Road and Station Road will all close at some point, with residents’ access only.

SGN said: “We’re investing £630,000 to upgrade our gas network on the B1361 in Prestonpans. This essential work involves the replacement of old, metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure a continued safe and reliable gas supply.

“Following discussions with East Lothian Council, our project on the B1361 will begin on Monday and last for approximately 15 weeks.

“To ensure everyone’s safety, temporary traffic lights will be in place around our work area and progress along the road with our work.”
