A FREE Christmas meal is being put on for pensioners in Prestonpans after one of the town’s clubs raised more than £3,000 at its annual charity lunch.

Prestonpans Hibs Supporters Club held its annual event at Royal Musselburgh Golf Club last Sunday.

And members said that they wanted to make sure none of the town’s older residents were on their own this Christmas time by hosting a free dinner there next month.

The club has also pledged £500 from its lunch to the Action for Alex campaign, which is raising money for five-year-old local boy Alex Logan, who is battling a rare brain tumour.

Steve Cross from the club said they were keen to put the funds raised this year to a good cause. and wanted as many people as possible to share it.

He said: “We have been in touch with the local day centres but we want every OAP who finds themselves on their own to come along and enjoy a Christmas meal and good company.

“We’re asking people to get in touch if they want to come, or perhaps they have a neighbour they know is on their own and want to make sure they are included.”

The two dates for the Christmas meal are on Thursday, December 14, and Saturday, December 16, at Royal Musselburgh Club.
