A HADDINGTON man who used a hard hat to assault a Bulgarian man has been ordered to stay indoors at night.

Gerard Friel attacked Stefan Kostandinov with the hat at Seton Sands Holiday Village, Seton Sands, last year.

Friel, of Hope Park, was also alleged to have threatened to kill the man, struck him on the body with a knife and struck him on the head with the blade to his permanent disfigurement, but his pleas of not guilty to those offences were accepted by the Crown when Friel pleaded guilty to the hard hat attack in June.

The 47-year-old returned to court last Monday, where Sheriff Gordon Liddle sentenced him to a restriction of liberty order meaning he must stay within his home between 8pm and 7am.

Friel admitted assaulting Mr Kostandinov with the hard hat at Seton Sands on September 14 last year.
