PLANS to relocate a proposed electrical substation from a controversial site to part of the former Cockenzie Power Station go on public display as people are invited to take part in two community consultations.

Inch Cape Offshore Limited (ICOL) holds the first public exhibition of its plans on Tuesday in Prestonpans, with a further event in Cockenzie and Port Seton the following week.

ICOL had applied for, and been granted, planning approval to build the substation on land at the old Coal Store, despite objection from the Battle of Prestonpans Heritage Trust.

But it was revealed that the company, which is planning to bring in energy from an offshore windfarm at the site, was now looking at putting the substation on the old power station site itself.

The company said the decision came after feedback from consultation on the original plans, along with the opportunity created by the decommissioning of the power station.

The first public consultation is in Prestonpans Primary School on Tuesday, 3.30-8pm, with the second at Port Seton Centre next Wednesday (June 14), 3- 8pm.
