PRESTONPANS DJ Claire Waugh is aiming for the big time after winning a competition which saw her play her own sets in freezing conditions.

Claire, who appears under the name Saskia, was named one of the UK’s top 40 bedroom DJs by Mixmag, the world’s biggest dance music and clubbing magazine, and Coors Light as they searched for new talent.

She was given the chance to take part in the Ice Cave Rave in Sheffield when she won the closing two-hour set in the chilly venue, which held a temperature of two degrees Celsius to maintain its frozen appearance.

Revellers stay warm by wearing specially designed thermal capes!

And last week, Claire was invited to take to the stage again when the Ice Cave Rave headed north to Glasgow to be Scotland’s first ice event.

Claire, 24, who works in digital marketing, hopes she can build on her experiences and turn her pastime into a career.

Claire said: “It is a competitive industry and hard to get a gig, so winning recognition through this competition was a great opportunity and I really enjoyed taking part in both events.

“I would love to go into the music industry. I’ll keep entering competitions and hope that I get more gigs and more experience”
