PRESTONPANS mum Lynn Laing is planning a Big Charity Night to help raise funds for a cancer charity, after battling the disease herself.

Lynn, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010 at the age of 49, underwent gruelling treatment and a mastectomy as she battled the condition.

And six years into remission, she is fighting to support the research and support work which goes on to help people affected by the disease.

Lynn will be hosting a fundraising night in Elphinstone Miners Welfare and Social Club in July, with all the money raised going to Breast Cancer Care Scotland.

The night will be the latest fundraising event Lynn has been involved with to support the cause close to her heart.

Last summer, she joined 21 other breast cancer survivors to take part in a glamorous fashion show, organised by the charity, in Glasgow.

The annual show aims to highlight that there is hope despite a diagnosis of breast cancer, and features models who have all been affected.

Lynn was delighted to be chosen to take part, saying she would be the “first Panner” to join the show, making her mother proud.

Medical receptionist Lynn, who lives with husband Charles and their son Euan, 18, in Newcraighall, is a former Preston Lodge High School student.

Mum Margaret Hood still lives in Prestonpans.

Lynn said taking part in the fashion show was a great chance to give back to everyone who supported her through her treatment, and now she hopes to continue giving back with her latest fundraising event.

Lynn said: “Cancer is a life-changing nightmare and this is my chance to give something back for the amazing care and support I received throughout my treatment.”

The Big Charity Night is being held on Saturday, July 15, and runs from 7.30pm until 12.45am, with raffles, tombolas, lots of surprises on the night and a disco and buffet.
