THE number of people who have visited a tapestry that celebrates Scots abroad has passed 100,000.

The Scottish Diaspora Tapestry, which was designed by Cockenzie artist Andrew Crummy to mark the Year of the Homecoming 2014, has been touring the world for nearly two years, with exhibitions across Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

And as it takes part in the final month of its tour in Ottawa, organisers have announced the number of people to visit the tapestry on its tour has gone above 100,000.

The tapestry is scheduled to return to the United Kingdom towards the end of March, with an exhibition planned at Westminster that will run until the end of April, before it comes home to Scotland for the Three Harbours Arts Festival at the beginning of June.

However, it goes global again at the end of the year, with plans under way for a tour in the United States and Jamaica.

The tapestry was inspired by the success of the Battle of Prestonpans Tapestry, which sparked huge interest and remains an attraction for visitors to the county.

The Diaspora Tapestry reflects on the impact Scots have had abroad as they migrated around the world.

And it draws together the colourful imprint the nation has made and achievements of individuals into a single piece of art.
