A STRAY cat who became a regular visitor to Cockenzie House has been reunited with her owner. . . six years after disappearing.

Enzo the cat was just four years old when she went missing from her home in Musselburgh.

Owner Geoff Gillies and his family did everything they could to find her but had no luck – until last month when Enzo was picked up by Lothian Cat Rescue and scanned for a microchip.

Staff at the rescue said they were amazed when they phoned the number registered with her microchip and were told she had been gone for six years.

A spokesperson said: “When we called Mr Gillies and asked if he was Enzo’s owner he was absolutely astonished, we couldn’t believe it when he said she had been missing six years.

“It shows you how important it is to microchip your pets and keep details up to date. We also encourage people if they see a cat they believe to be a stray to call us and let us check for a chip.”

Enzo had been spotted at Cockenzie House and Gardens for the last two years as a regular visitor.

Gardeners and allotment owners at the house fed her and named her Bobby.

However, as winter approached this year, there were concerns for her and the rescue was called.

One allotment owner said: “Bobby was fed by a gardener regularly but when he had to give up coming down we took over. Originally we thought Bobby must live locally but with winter approaching we wanted to check she was not a stray.

“It's amazing to think she has been reunited with her family after so long.”

And Enzo is making the most of being back with her family. The rescue said: “Enzo’s family report that she is settled back in the house and refusing to go outside at all. Clearly she is happy to be home.”
