A YOUNG Port Seton sculptor who has been praised by one of the country’s best-known animators was invited to be guest artist at a Christmas event that showcased the best producers and crafts in East Lothian.

Calvin McCluskie’s work has attracted interest from across the world after it went up for sale on global marketplace Etsy two years ago.

As well as producing stunning handmade linocut prints of Scottish landmarks, he specialises in clay sculpture, producing detailed models.

Calvin is autistic but, rather than see that as a hindrance to any of his hopes and ambitions, he has worked hard to overcome any problems that autism could cause him and is carving out a career for himself doing what he loves best.

Wallace and Gromit creator Nick Park is a fan of Calvin’s work.

After seeing some of his early work, he said: “Calvin’s models are excellent.

“He obviously has bags of skill, imagination and humour, and shows great promise as a model maker and perhaps an animator in the future.”

Dad Chris says Calvin showed a real flair for art in both drawing and modelling from an early age.

He has even had work used in Grand Theft Auto IV and sold dozens of piece of his work on Etsy - an online platform for arts and crafts which sells worldwide.

Last week, Calvin joined a range of East Lothian producers and makers at Haddington Food Assembly’s Christmas Extravaganza to show off his work.

The assembly, which launched in May this year, offers people the chance to order a weekly shop from a wide range of suppliers across the county that they can then collect all at the same venue.

It showcases the best food and drink producers have to offer, as well as focusing on the arts and craft of the county.

Calvin set up shop at the Christmas showcase, where he attracted keen interest as he demonstrated his sculpting talent art in front of fascinated visitors.

His polar bear and moose decorations and artwork also attracted crowds, and were available to buy online through the assembly throughout the week.

Calvin’s work can be found under the brand I Am Calvin. To find out more about his work, go to calvinsmodels.blogspot.co.uk
