POLICE are hunting a fire-raiser who is being blamed for a string of incidents in which bins were set alight in Prestonpans.

Emergency services have been called to numerous reports of wheelie bins and street bins being set alight in a series of late night attacks.

Community police officer Garrett Hughes said his team were keen to track down the person or persons responsible for the worrying incidents.

He said: "Street bins and wheelie bins are being set alight across the town and we are looking for help identifying this individuals from members of the public."

The string of incidents come as officers also launched an invetigation into two further suspicious fires in the town on Tuesday evening.

The fires started on a grass area and also in a bus shelter, at Inchview, heading west out of the town.

Sergeant Derek MacDonald, from Prestonpans Police Station, said: "Tuesday's reckless acts of stupidity resulted in significant damage to a bus shelter and to the grass at Summerlee, but the consequences could have been far worse had the fires taken hold and spread to nearby buildings or vehicles."
