VANDALS left a trail of destruction at the grounds of Preston Athletic Football Club after gaining access at the weekend.

Graffiti was scrawled across the dugout and paint thrown across the stands and masonry, while broken bottles of alcohol were strewn on the ground.

The incident was reported to police on Sunday after it was discovered at the team grounds at the Pennypit, Prestonpans.

Furious Preston Athletic shared photographs of the shocking attack on their Twitter account, warning the vandals: “Cheers for destroying our pitch and stand – you are all on CCTV, you know who you are – and so do the police now!”

The photographs sparked angry responses and disbelief, with fellow football fans expressing their dismay.

One said: “Absolutely shocking, you just have to ask yourself why when clubs are trying so hard to help the community.”

Another added: “Sad days.”

Police Scotland appealed for anyone with information about the attacks, which happened some time over the weekend, to come forward. The team was playing an away game after Saturday’s match against Tranent.

Club midfielder Kenny Park described the damage caused to the grounds as “horrible”.

A police spokesperson said: “We received a report of vandalism at Pennypit Park. Investigations are ongoing and we are appealing for information.”
