HUNDREDS of youngsters from Cockenzie Primary School gathered to record a Christmas song with a very special meaning to the community.

Pupils at the school were asked to sing 'When Santa Got Stuck Up the Chimney' as a tribute to the Cockenzie Power Station chimneys, which were demolished this year.

The school was chosen to record the song by radio station Forth 1, which will play their version in the run-up to Christmas.

Pupils received a visit from breakfast show stars Boogie and Arlene to help them as they recorded the lyrics.

Forth 1 asks schools to take part in their annual Christmas celebrations each year by recording songs. Cockenzie is the only East Lothian school chosen to take part. The whole school joined in the singalong, which was recorded on Monday.

Teacher Jennifer Daly said: “Boogie, Arlene and producer Marty were welcomed with a rousing cheer. The children sang enthusiastically, many wearing Santa hats or festive boppers to help get them in the Christmas mood.”

The recording is expected to air in the two weeks before Christmas, along with interviews with some of the pupils about how they celebrate Christmas.
