EX-COUNTY MP Anne Moffat is to be given a £30,000 'golden goodbye' payment, it has been claimed - despite being ditched by the local Labour party before the General Election.

A new report by pressure group the Taxpayers' Alliance (TA) reveals that 218 MPs, who retired or lost their seats following the election, will receive a share of a £10 million 'resettlement grant' from taxpayers' cash.

The £32,869 pay-out it says Ms Moffat will receive, which is tax-free for the first £30,000, comes on top of her annual parliamentary pension of up to £30,000.

Ms Moffat is said to have secured a deal to take retirement on health grounds before she was ousted by local party members.

The TA said the revelations would be "frustrating for taxpayers" following the expenses scandal. The resettlement grants are intended to help former MPs adjust to life outside Westminster.
