TWO dramatic rescue missions were launched at Dunbar beaches last Friday, when a couple of adventurous animals got into a spot of bother exploring the seaside cliffs.
Inspectors from the SSPCA raced to the cliffs opposite Winterfield Golf Club when a member of the public alerted them, at 8pm, that a young female cat was trapped on small ledge.
Earlier that day, firefighters were called to retrieve a dog that had ventured into a cliff cave below Dunbar Leisure Pool.
To rescue the dangling feline, who was trapped roughly 20 feet down, SSPCA senior inspector John Chisholm had to abseil down the cliffside.
Chief inspector Paul Anderson supervised his colleague"s descent and, two hours and two attempts later, the cat (pictured) was finally rescued unharmed.
She is now being cared for at the SSPCA"s Edinburgh and Lothians Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre, Balerno.
Mr Chisholm said: 'The little cat is very lucky that someone spotted her, as the ledge she was clinging to was no more than a lip of rock and had it been windy, she may not have been able to hang on.
'Fortunately, she is uninjured and we would like to reunite the cat with her owner.'
