Police issued 30 parking tickets in North Berwick over the weekend, after concerns were raised over parking in the area by the community.

Issues over dangerous parking and road traffic violations were identified by the local Community and Police Partnership (CAPP) and other feedback, including the community council.

In response to those concerns, a crackdown has taken place and, over the weekend, 30 tickets were issued on High Streeet, Balfour Street, Quadrant, Marine Parade and Melbourne Place.

Dedicated foot patrols have also seen several parking tickets issued in Haddington and other towns in East Lothian, and corrective advice given to other motorists.

Inspector Alan Hogarth said: “Local officers have been engaging with members of the North Berwick community and have acted on their concerns.

“We appreciate and understand the importance of these issues and carried out a period of sustained enforcement, resulting in 30 tickets being handed out over the weekend.

“I hope this activity demonstrates that the police do take on board the views of communities across East Lothian and we are committed to deploying our resources in the most effective way possible in an effort to address the issues that matter most to residents.” Sheila Sinclair, chairwoman of North Berwick Community Council, told the Courier: “We’re delighted that the police are tackling people who are breaking traffic regulations.

“Parking is a problem and we are delighted that the police are paying attention to it and action is being taken.”
