Inspirational fundraiser Rebecca Dalgleish was among those suggested to members of North Berwick Community Council to have streets in the town named after them.

The community council has been tasked with putting together a list of names for streets at new developments in the town and has already supplied a dozen names to East Lothian Council.

And at its most recent meeting, held earlier this month, members received more submissions, from local resident Douglas Seaton.

He suggested Macintyre, Whitecross and Thomson after two former provosts and the man who provided land at Mains Farm to the local authority for council houses.

He also suggested a host of golfers be recognised, with the names Anderson, McLeod (former US Open champions) Hobens (founder of US PGA), Kenny (Canadian Open champion), and Campbell (British and American Ladies champion) among his suggestions.

Mr Seaton told the Courier he believes John Macintryre was “the finest provost the town has produced”, while adding “most communities with such a wealth of world-class golfers and national champions would give their right arm to have such a choice. I will be first in the queue to persuade our community to include these golfing pioneers.” Meanwhile, Sheila Sinclair, community council chairwoman, said she had been approached about the idea of having 18-year-old Rebecca’s incredible fundraising efforts marked.

Former North Berwick High School pupil Rebecca has raised more than £50,000 for CHAS after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.
