More than 600 pupils at Law Primary School took part in a Race for Life.

The youngsters ran either a one or two kilometre-race, as they raised an impressive total of more than £2,000 for Cancer Research, and in memory of teacher Alison Barbour, who lost her battle with cancer earlier this year.

And that was to the delight of Jill Wareham, Law Primary’s headteacher.

She said: “The school is delighted with the success of the day and particularly the involvement of all the children and the support from the teachers and parents. We have raised funds for a very important cause, which many of the children have first-hand experience with, and for others it was a great day out in the sunshine, away from the classroom.” Parents and family members were also invited to don their running shoes after the youngsters had completed their race, with a 5k race taking place.

There were more than 50 entries for the 5k race, while a Commonwealth Games athlete – East Lothian athletics development officer Jamie Bowie – was in attendance to hand out medals to all the winners in the age category events.
