North Berwick Environment Trust has secured a six-figure grant from Historic Scotland.
The group – which also has an application with Viridor for a grant of up to £360,000 – is to receive up to £100,000 from Historic Scotland towards restoration work at Kirk Ports.
The old St Andrews Church there has lain as a ruin for many years, and had the roof of its tower removed in 2011; plans are afoot to see it drastically refurbished.
The group has received correspondance from Historic Scotland to offer a grant of up to £100,000, with a detailed scheme of works now to be submitted.
The issue was discussed at the January meeting of the trust, which is in discussions with East Lothian Council over a 10-year lease of the ruin. NBET was due to discuss the issue again last night (Thursday).
