FIRST East Scotland has reduced its North Berwick to Edinburgh bus service from half hourly to once an hour.

The bus firm said that it was resuming a previous service which saw the X24 terminate at Musselburgh every other journey, after the more regular service failed to attract enough new passengers.

First introduced the extra service in May 2013 but said the number of passengers remained low.

A spokesperson for First East Scotland said: “We are resuming the previous pattern of service, with alternate buses in the off-peak operating between North Berwick and Musselburgh only.

“This is in line with the pattern of passenger demand and additional journeys will continue to operate to and from Edinburgh at peak periods.

“We had hoped that operating a half-hourly service through to Edinburgh would attract significantly more passengers but this has proved not to be the case.” Changes have also been made to the X6/X8 routes with the addition of off-peak journeys between Edinburgh and Haddington. A revised route and timetable is being introduced to the 108 between Wallyford and Kinnaird Park, which will operate via Macbeth Moir Road, Pinkie Road, Newhailes Road and Newcraighall Road, offering a faster link to Fort Kinnaird.
