The Scottish Seabird Centre has scooped another prize at a national awards ceremony .

The centre were recognised for its marketing campaign for Puffin Fest at the 2014 Association of Scottish Visitor Attractions (ASVA) awards at Crieff Hydro .

Puffin Fest was the first ever festival dedicated to puffins in Scotland, which ran between May 16 and 26.

The seabird centre, which has won numerous accolades since it opened in 2000, was praised for its social media activity, including the first-ever Wildhour conversation on Twitter, hosted by chief executive Tom Brock.

Laura Adamson, marketing manager, said: “The seabird centre has been celebrating the return of the puffins every spring since the centre opened in 2000 and in 2014 we wanted to do something really special for their ‘Homecoming’ – something we could build on for future years, highlighting that the Seabird Centre is THE place to see and discover puffins in Scotland.

“The promotional budget was limited and a strategic, researched approach was essential to deliver a high-impact campaign that would achieve objectives. Despite a tough economic climate and fierce competition for consumers’ free time, we were delighted that the target figures were not only achieved but exceeded, making it a hugely successful marketing campaign.” The centre also won praise for its leaflet and poster campaign, which highlighted Puffin Fest to visitors and local residents alike.

And the judges highlighted the centre’s Puffin Passport as a particular highlight.

The idea was to promote local retailers, and saw shop windows decorated, while local accommodation providers were offered a discount to festival events for their guests.

And when picking the county visitor attraction as the winner, ahead of Scotland Street School Museum, the judging panel said: “This was a well-presented and professionally communicated submission with a great level of supporting material, a strong and appealing brand for a good range of visitors, clear objectives and inventive use of Twitter and key Twitter influencers.”
