MUM Chelsea Elder will hold two very special fancy dress parties next weekend in memory of her son, who died when he was just over an hour old.

Baby Aiden Elder lived just one hour and 17 minutes following his birth on Hallowe’en 2006.

Now mum Chelsea, 30, hopes to raise money in his name, to help other parents the way she was helped after losing her baby boy.

Chelsea said: “Although Aiden was with us for a short time, he has remained a part of our lives.

“Losing him was devastating and I struggled with depression.

“Without the support I received I would not be where I am now, and I want to make sure other people know help is there for them.” Chelsea, of Lime Grove, North Berwick, found support through charity SiMBA (Simpson’s Memory Box Appeal), which supports parents who have lost babies either around the time of birth or during pregnancy.

Chelsea said: “SiMBA gave me a memory box with a snippet of Aiden’s hair and his handprint, and at first I didn’t think it would help, but I would take the box out every day and it really did. It was about keeping memories of him with me and that is so important.

“A little while after Aiden died everyone around me seemed to get on with their lives, but I felt I was stuck, and having SiMBA and others who had been affected by loss there became a second family.

“It is so important people have that support there and these days with social networking we can have private groups offering help to those struggling to cope.” SiMBA helps provide hospitals all over the UK with family rooms where parents can say goodbye to their babies in their own time.

And it was a blessing for Chelsea and her family as they came to terms with losing Aiden.

Chelsea said: “When I was told I was being induced on Hallowe’en I didn’t tell my family. I thought I would have Aiden, go home and have people round to meet him.

“I couldn’t have foreseen what would happen and have always felt guilty they did not get to be there.

“But having the family room meant we could spend time with him and take lots of picture. It made a huge difference; it was a chance to create memories.” Chelsea, who has two sons Tyler, six, and Kai, three, makes sure Aiden is still involved in family life.

She said: “Both Kai and Tyler known about Aiden, they know they have a big brother. We celebrate his birthday every year.” This year for the first time, Chelsea decided to use Aiden’s birthday celebrations to give back to SiMBA with two fundraising fancy dress parties.

Next Friday (October 31), a children’s fancy dress party will be held in The County Hotel, North Berwick, 5-8pm.

And the following night it will be a grown-up affair as Glen Golf Club hosts an adult fancy dress party.

All money will go to SiMBA.
