A block of run-down toilets in North Berwick will undergo a facelift, according to East Lothian Council.
The council was contacted last month by Robin Black, skipper of Sula II, who was concerned about the state of the harbour toilets, and called for extensive work to be carried out, or the toilets closed.
In reponse to his complaint, Ray Montgomery, East Lothian Council’s head of infrastructure, said: “In the current financial climate, I am afraid that the council cannot commit to major refurbishment but we will make arrangements to carry out the identified repairs and painting work at the first available opportunity.
“These toilets are regularly monitored for cleanliness but unfortunately the material, age and condition of the toilets do not create an easy environment for effective cleaning.” Despite the council pledge to carry out repairs and painting work, Mr Black described the response as “pretty unsatisfactory”.
It is unclear as to when the work is expected to take place.
