Concerns have been raised that a sculpture which stands outside the Scottish Seabird Centre is impeding pedestrians.

The Watcher, the brainchild of artist Kenny Hunter, stands outside the town’s visitor attraction, but has drawn concern from members of the public.

North Berwick Community Council met recently, and discussed the issue of the sculpture, which members believe blocks the pavement for families with buggies or anyone in a wheelchair.

However, the Scottish Seabird Centre reiterated to the Courier that the position of The Watcher is in line with planning permission.

Chief executive Tom Brock added: “Since he was installed earlier this year, it has been wonderful to observe the response The Watcher has had from visitors to the seabird centre. He has certainly become a very popular feature.

“He has become a favourite for photographs, including lots of ‘selfies’ and, just as the artist intended, he can be appreciated from all angles with people of all ages interacting with him. As he gazes out to the world-famous Bass Rock, he makes people think about our amazing wildlife and environment.” North Berwick Community Council remains concerned about the position of the sculpture, and at a recent meeting, agreed to write to the seabird centre for their assistance.
