PLANS for a revamp of the playground at Law Primary School have received a major boost, thanks to a gift of £11,500 from North Berwick Round Table.
Round Tablers donated £5,000 of their own funds towards the Law Primary Playground Transformation Project by organising a series of local events, including their Christmas pantomime, and the remaining funds were earned at spring ball held in March at the Macdonald Marine Hotel in partnership with Law Primary PTA.
Sandra Gemmell, co-chair of the PTA, told the Courier: 'This is a fantastic boost to our fundraising efforts and we"re very grateful to North Berwick Round Table for both their moral and financial support.'
The parents" group is working on a project to completely transform the school playground by putting in place a wide variety of new play equipment for all ages.
Members have set an ambitious target of £40,000 to fund the new hard-wearing play equipment - which is being imported from Norway and is due to be installed at various locations within the existing playground. The playground currently has almost no outdoor play equipment for the children to enjoy.
Mark Elliott, newly-elected chairman of North Berwick Round Table, said: 'The generosity of local people has been really tremendous in helping us raise this hefty sum towards the transformation of the primary playground. The progress towards transforming the playground is now a big step closer.
'The Round Table and the PTA are very grateful to everybody who has made donations over recent months.'
It is understood the Round Table"s donation, coupled with money generated from the recent PTA family fun run where about 150 parents and children participated, has lifted the project funds to £31,600.
Added Sandra: 'We"ve still got a few irons in the fire and are talking to various trusts and businesses and awaiting confirmation - in the meantime we"re continuing our fundraising and are holding a children"s disco on Thursday (yesterday) and summer arts and crafts fayre on June 22.'
The work on installing the new play equipment is due to start at the end of the current school term.
It is hoped the project will be completed in time for the return of pupils after the summer break.
