ADDITIONAL resources have been provided to Law Primary School after a council review identified “a number of areas” for improvement.

The review was carried out by the education service in January and highlighted that communication and engagement with the school community were among areas that required addressing by the school’s senior management team.

Now, headteacher Jill Wareham has written to parents to update them on the school’s next steps.

She said: “We will now be developing our action plan to address the issues identified. We have already taken some steps to strengthen the role of our pupil support by reviewing the role of our depute headteacher.

“Mrs Thomas will focus on pupil support and Miss Thomson, principal teacher, has taken on the day-to-day management of the nursery.”

The review also called for greater support to be given to primary four pupils, while it found that staff did not have a “shared understanding of inclusion”.

And Mrs Wareham added that the school was recruiting for new additional support needs staff after its exceptional needs funding was increased, while another primary four teacher has been appointed.

She said that the additional resources were “very welcome”, adding: “We now have clear direction on the improvements we need to make and are looking forward to working with the authority.”

The school is also being assisted by a “consultant to work with us on our improvement priorities”, she added.

And the headteacher also said that the school was “fully committed” to the council’s Respect for All policy, adding: “We want to ensure that bullying has no place at Law Primary.”

The review took place after a range of concerns were expressed by staff and parents. Mr Wareham discussed the school’s action plan at a meeting of the parent council on Monday.
