NORTH Berwick has been named one of the top 10 places to live in Scotland.

The town has been named among the top 10 by The Sunday Times' Best Places to Live Guide, as Melrose in the Scottish Borders was named the best place to live in Scotland.

The guide is due to be published on Sunday and assesses a range of factors including jobs, schools, community spirit and local shops.

Joining North Berwick and Melrose on the list are: Aberdour in Fife; Aboyne in Aberdeenshire; the Black Isle; Dundee; the Morningside area of Edinburgh; Strathbungo in Glasgow; Wigtown in Dumfries and Galloway; and Orkney.

It also lists average house prices for each of the 10 places selected – according to the guide, a 'starter' home in North Berwick costs £181,380 on average, while a mid-market home is £329,680 and a family home will set you back more than half a million pounds (£516,730).

Helen Davies, home editor at The Sunday Times, said: "Choosing the right location to put down roots is one of the most important decisions you'll make.

“Which is why we’re here to help - and what Best Places to Live in Britain is all about. We’re very excited that it is a standalone magazine this year.

"There is much to celebrate, and Britain is scattered with thriving towns and villages, cool cities and suburbs, though people may be surprised how many traditional favourites haven’t made the cut in 2018.”
