TRIBUTES have been paid to a former North Berwick Community Council chairwoman after her death last week.

Sheila Sinclair, who was long associated with a number of groups in the town after moving to North Berwick in 1990, died last Friday after a battle with cancer.

Ms Sinclair served as chairwoman on North Berwick Community Council (NBCC) and, among other roles, as secretary to North Berwick in Bloom.

When she announced her decision to stand aside from the former in late 2015, she told the Courier it had been an “honour and privilege” to serve on the community council.

Hilary Smith, current NBCC chairwoman, said: “She worked tirelessly for her community and she was much missed when she decided to stand down.

“She pulled out all the stops and when there was a job to be done she did it to the best of her ability. She will be missed.”

Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for North Berwick in Bloom said everyone involved with the group was “very sad to have lost a lovely, clever lady”.

She added: “Her level of commitment to North Berwick was unquestionable and she worked assiduously in whatever task she was involved, always way and above the call of duty.

“Her interest remained right through her illness and she continued to provide an invaluable contribution until very recently, never losing interest in what was happening.”

In June, Ms Sinclair was presented with a community service award by Rotary International for her “immense” service to the town.

Her funeral take place at Warriston Crematorium at 1pm on Wednesday.
