A CONVERTED shipping container could become a summer restaurant on the iconic West Bay beach front in North Berwick.

Ambitious plans have been submitted to East Lothian Council for a restaurant, within a converted shipping container, to be situated near the town's putting greens.

The plans for the restaurant, named Craig View, have been put forward by local businessman Stirling Stewart, who runs the Nether Abbey Hotel.

The proposals state that the restaurant would be in place between April and September, and that the container would be removed, by crane, at the end of the season.

Mr Stewart, who also runs the Lobster Shack and the Rocketeer restaurant in the town, explained his reasons behind selecting the site.

He told the Courier: "When I was a kid there was lots going on there and it was a hub of activity, with beach huts and all sorts of things.

"I guess part of the reason I've chosen that site is because I want to see it return to that."

There would be no access for vehicles - diners would access the restaurant on foot from Rotary Way.

He also revealed that the new restaurant could create up to six new full-time jobs.
