TWO Law Primary School pupils gave a presentation to North Berwick Community Council last week on their wishes for the town.

Calum Paxton and Ursula Fletcher, both in P7 at the school, told community councillors about a host of improvements they would like to see in the town – from a “more interesting” swimming pool to an outdoor trampoline park in the Lodge Grounds.

The youngsters were joined by Calum’s gran Allison Cosgrove, who has been talking to the P7 class.

At the meeting, she said: “I have been speaking to the P7s about being a volunteer and an activist, and the kids are very aware of what is happening in the town.

“I asked them to talk about the things they would like to see in North Berwick and they had a vote on what they wanted.”

The ideas the youngsters put forward also included dugouts at the 3G pitch at Recreation Park. Calum said: “We have noticed that other 3G pitches have dugouts – it would give us somewhere to put our stuff if we were playing and it started to rain.”

Among the other ideas were a safer crossing at Glasclune Gardens, a handrail at the path in The Glen to make it safer, and cleaner toilets.

Members of the community council were delighted to see the young pair attend the meeting and put forward their ideas.

Hilary Smith, chairwoman, said: “I am really interested in the things you have said and it is great to see you here.”

Sue Northrop, who is also one of the co-chairwomen of the North Berwick Coastal Area Partnership, added: “Any way we can help you, we are right up for it.”

Some of the proposals outlined by Calum and Ursula are already being looked at, but North Berwick Community Council pledged its support to take some of the ideas forward.
