NORTH Berwick’s fireworks display has been re-arranged for next weekend, after it was called off on Saturday.

East Lothian Yacht Club took the decision to postpone the event on Saturday lunchtime, with high winds scheduled.

A statement from the club read: “It is with great regret that East Lothian Yacht Club have had to postpone the fireworks due to the strength and direction of the wind making it unsafe.

“It is vital that safety for spectators, volunteers and buildings is the top priority.”

A club spokesperson told the Courier that the fireworks display has been re-arranged for next Friday (November 18), starting at 7.30pm at the town’s harbour.

He explained the reasons behind the postponement, saying: “The main reason was the direction of the high winds, rather than just the fact that it was windy.

“The long-term forecast looks good, so it’s been re-arranged for next weekend.”

All are welcome to attend the fireworks display, which is supported by the town’s community council and North Berwick Golf Club.
