A LANARKSHIRE man has been jailed after admitting to gouging a man’s eyes during a fight in North Berwick last year.
Charles Smith, from Wishaw, repeatedly punched Kevin Doherty to the head before pressing his thumbs into the man’s eye sockets.
Smith struggled with his victim and they both fell to the ground during the fight, on the town’s Forth Street Lane, in November last year.
Smith, 31, admitted the attack during an appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Thursday.
Sheriff Frank Crowe jailed Smith for nine months.
Smith admitted to an amended charge of assaulting Mr Doherty by struggling with him, repeatedly punching him to the head and also gouging the man’s eyes with his thumbs at Forth Street Lane, North Berwick, on November 14 last year.
