Marks & Spencer is to become Markle & Sparkle for one weekend to celebrate the royal wedding.

The Windsor branch of M&S is a focus of the re-brand, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expected to pass the store following their nuptials at St George’s Chapel on Saturday.

The store is featuring a sparkly Markle & Sparkle fascia, with windows decked out in the colours of the Union flag.

The retailer said the re-brand, accompanied by a town crier and a ceremonial ribbon-cut performed by recently wed M&S characters Percy and Penny Pig, was its way of capturing the excitement of “receiving a real-life Hollywood princess into our royal family”.

M&S stores in Kensington & Chelsea, Reading, Maidenhead, Camberley, Bracknell, Newbury, Leamington Spa, Tunbridge Wells, Swindon, Kingston upon Thames, Lewisham, Llandudno and Sutton Coldfield will also feature specially designed Markle & Sparkle windows and decor.

Customers will also be able to take advantage of in-store Markle & Sparkle selfie booths and send messages via its social channels, all of which will be made into a virtual wedding album and sent to Kensington Palace.

Sharry Cramond, marketing director of food and hospitality at M&S said: “As a quintessentially British brand we had to do something special to mark the royal wedding, and what better way to welcome Meghan to the family than to ‘marry’ both our names together for the weekend.

“As a retailer, we’ve celebrated 34 royal weddings over our 134-year history, but this is the boldest idea we’ve delivered yet.

“We wanted to spark a smile from Harry and Meghan on their big day and capture the excitement and celebratory mood of the nation on receiving a real-life Hollywood princess into our royal family.”
